Make It Count
Make it Count
When you think about the phrase “make it count”, there should
be one thing that immediately pops into your head: Titanic. Remember the scene
in which Jack is introduced to the world of fame and riches while on board the
Titanic? He has a very fancy, black-tie dinner with Rose and her family when he
is asked what his future goals in life were. Jack, being a nomad-type
individual, looks those aristocrats in the eyes and says, “I figure life’s a
gift and I don’t intend on wasting it. You never know what hand you’re gonna
get dealt next. You learn to take life as it comes at you, to make each day
count.”
If only it were that simple, right? If only life were that
easy, to take it as it comes. The Type A in me just churns at the thought of
not having a plan and a back-up plan and a back-up plan to the back-up plan.
However, that is exactly how life can be if we just let go and let what will be
will be. We all have been blessed with so many incredible aspects of our lives,
and if we just take a moment to stop and appreciate them instead of planning,
planning, planning, then we can start making each day count. There is nothing
wrong with taking that break, taking that step back, or hitting the pause button.
On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with hitting the ground running,
taking that next leap of faith, or saying yes to that opportunity. No matter
what direction you take it…. Make each day count.
Sit on the beach and drink a mimosa. Take that business call
that will land you your next client. Read that book you’ve been telling
yourself you’d finish. Close that business deal. Shut your phone off for a day.
Nail that business proposal. Take the day off to play pirates with your
children. Finish that last round of chemo. Get off of the couch that you have
been stuck to while battling depression. Step outside and breath in the fresh
and humid Missouri air. Dip your toes in the lake water. Go into work early to
finish that big project.
It doesn’t matter what mundane activity you may be doing for
the day, but in every way…MAKE IT COUNT.
